VSCO Roundup #51 – May 2020

More walks. I think I’ve never walked as much as during Corona. People from outside the Ruhrgebiet won’t believe it, but there’s so much beautiful nature here. The photos in the second part of this post have been taken somewhere else, though. We went on a two day hiking trip in the Eifel, which we had booked long before Corona, and after all the time of not going anywhere it felt as good and relaxing as a one week vacation.

VSCO Roundup #49 – March 2020

I am so behind on posting again, but finally here’s my VSCO Roundup from March. If I had posted this at the beginning of April, I probably would’ve written about what a strange month March was. And it sure was – but in retrospect it was just the beginning of the new normal. In the first days of March there was a Big Thief concert in Cologne and although Corona was already a thing and we thought it might not be the very best idea to attend the show, we still did and so did one thousand other people. Thinking about it now feels like it happened in a completely different time and world. I started working from home (which I still do) and taking walks during lunch break to see all those little masked ghosts who startet to appear on almost every wall in Dortmund.

Gurr @ Zeche Carl, Essen (February 6, 2020)

Exactly one month ago I went to see Gurr in Essen. It was an awesome Rock’n’Roll show, stagediving included. Those women (and the male drummer) had so much fun on stage, it was pure joy to watch them. Afterwards I was so motivated and euphoric that I immediately wanted to start my own band. (I didn’t, though.) Here’s a bunch of photos.

VSCO Roundup #48 – February 2020

There are hardly any photos from February. It’s always gray and dark and raining. Winter in Germany can be so annoying. So is the camera of my new phone. Actually it’s already a few months old, but I’m still angry at how bad the image quality is.

VSCO Roundup #47 – January 2020

I didn’t do a single VSCO Roundup in 2019 (because I didn’t post anything on VSCO, either) and I was very unhappy with that. When I think about the past month it’s usually something like “There was work and … boring stuff … and riding delayed trains … and more work.” But when I look at the photos I am reminded that I did some really nice things, too. I really missed that the last year. So I want to get back to the routine of having a look at the good things. In January 2020 those were – among others – fluffy cats, long hikes and beautiful sunrises.

Edit: After I posted this I realised there were some more pictures from January … another hike and some gloomy shots in Dortmund.

Cologne Pride 2019

We had a really great pride weekend (or CSD, as it’s mostly called in Germany) in Cologne: friends, dyke march, perfect weather, drinks, big parade.

Frankfurt / Beauty

Last Saturday we went to Frankfurt to see the “Beauty” exhibition by Sagmeister/Walsh. We also found some beauty outside the museum. My photos in chronological order:

Trekking in the Eifel

Right after Easter we went on a three day trekking tour in the Eifel. We had booked two so-called Naturlagerplätze, wooden platforms in the middle of the forest. There’s room for two small tents on the platform, a bench and table is built right to it, and there’s an outhouse is nearby.

We hiked along the river Urft, crossed an exciting bridge, came by an estate that had been used by the Nazis for educational purposes, visited an abandoned Belgian gas station (the Nazi estate turned into a military training area first for the British, afterwards for the Belgians), had Grappa and coffee and scones and stroopwaffels and Nutella bread (and some disgusting looking trekking food from a plastic bag), got water from a beautiful little creek, were only a little scared by the blair-witchy constructions near our second platform, and saw virgin Mary on our way back.

Despite our backpacks being a little too heavy it was a fantastic trip and I’m looking forward to visiting the two newly opened platforms in the next year or so.

A Sunday in April

Doing some creative stuff, watching the cats, going on a short walk, eating pizza.
